Porsche Has Just Made Life With A Taycan Or Macan A Little Faster
Porsche's Macan and Taycan electric vehicles have just gotten quicker, absolutely free. Quicker to charge, that is. The Macan EV, along with 2026 Porsche Taycan models can get their electric fill-up even more smoothly than any gas-fueled vehicle. Now they can do it on the Tesla Supercharger network, marking a major expansion of options.

Plug & Charge now works for the select Porsche EV customers using Plug & Charge technology and the Porsche Charging Service. The latter is Porsche's in-car charge app, and it stores your payment information. Tesla's chargers can use the service to authenticate and send the service a bill, so all you have to do is plug in your car and chill.

"Expanding Plug & Charge availability to more than 27,500 additional chargers simplifies the charging process and enhances ease of use. It is an important milestone in delivering a seamless electric vehicle experience."

Porsche's Charging Service already offered Plug & Charge at Electrify America stations and some other networks. The service will now work on more than 100,000 charging stations around the country, so owners don't have to pull out an app or a card to pay.
This doesn't apply to older model Taycans, though it's not clear why. Both 2025 and 2026 Taycan models use the CCS charge port, and require an adapter to use Tesla's stations. That adapter is provided at purchase with 2026 models, but requires the customer to have previously applied through the My Porsche app on MY 2025 cars. 2024 and older owners have to buy their own.
Before now, Porsche drivers needed to use the Tesla app to start a charge session. Owners of 2025 and older cars will still need to use that app. Porsche said that when the 2026 Cayenne EV arrives later this year, that it will also offer Plug & Charge technology. The company did not say if older vehicles would gain the ability down the road.
It's not talked about much, but fast charging can be a frustrating experience. With so many charge networks and station formats, owners need to have multiple payment apps. They then need to find the right one, ensure they're still signed in (because the last time they were on that network may have been months ago), or work with a card reader that lives outside.
Plug & Charge is an ISO standard that simplifies the process. Every charge station and vehicle that supports it works interchangeably. The payment goes through your car, and the financial transaction happens behind the scenes. It's not just easier for owners, who don't even have to wait for an attendant to start the pump, it's more secure.
There are security keys built into the software in the vehicle and the station. One needs the other to be decrypted. Unlike a credit card skimmer on a gas pump, the Plug & Charge process can't be used to sneak your card, racking up charges and giving you more time on the phone with your bank.
